An Office Outlook With A Difference

Investing in our sustainable surroundings At Check Your Security, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable environment for all living creatures, and we are proud to share the results of our efforts investing in enhancing wildlife habitats at our head office site. Through the creation of a wildflower meadow, the installation of beehives, and the restoration of a dilapidated pond, we have not only enhanced our surroundings, but we have also created a thriving ecosystem. The evidence of kingfishers and otters using the restored pond is a testament to the success of our efforts, and we will continue to prioritize the well-being of our environment and its inhabitants.

The Wildflower Meadow
Covering an area of approximately 1.5 acres we have not only enhanced our surroundings but have also provided a habitat for various species of insects, birds, and small mammals. These creatures, in turn, contribute to pollination and seed dispersal, which are essential processes for maintaining healthy ecosystems. Moreover, the wildflowers act as a natural filter, helping to absorb pollutants from the air and soil. The wildflowers provide a diverse habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. These insects are essential for the pollination of many crops and wildflowers. They can also support beneficial insects such as ladybirds and lacewings that prey on pest insects that can damage crops. Wildflower meadows can support a variety of bird species, including those that feed on seeds and insects found in the meadow. The wildflower meadow is cut and raked by hand and occasionally grazed in the dormant season to help maintain its structure.

The Bees
Currently we are maintained seven hives. We feel bees are important, yet evidence suggests they are declining hence our investment in beehives. Bees play a vital role in pollination, and their presence is essential for the pollination of fruits, and vegetables plus other wild plants around the property and adjacent properties. The bees' pollination efforts, in turn, support the growth of various plant species, helping to create a healthier ecosystem. No profit is made from the honey instead all is donated free of charge.

The Pond
17 years ago, we invested in restoring a pond that was overgrown and choked with algae and invasive weed species. The restoration work involved restoring the banks, removal of years of over enriched sediment and the eradication of invasive and non-native plants. The pond is spring fed but also is connected to a series of dykes (drainage ditches) we use reeds and other plant life where possible to filter and enrich the the water entering or leaving the pond.

Today we see a healthy environment, which is now home to fish such as sticklebacks, which have made their own way here from the dykes, a family of Kingfishers and inevitably otter enjoying a new dining location. A local photographer has a semi-permanent hide set up adjacent to the pond from which he has captured some amazing images of the wildlife bounty the pond has provided. These pictures are used to create an annual calendar which is issues to local residences and customers free of charge this yearly calendar has become extremely popular due to the unique and exciting nature of the pictures taken.
