What is CIF?
Common Intermediate Format
Used in
CCTV and other video encoding. It is used to standardise the horizontal and vertical resolutions in pixels of YUV or luminance, (brightness), and chrominace (colour) sequences of the video signal. A
CIF is sometimes described as a quarter of the full resolution of the video signal i.e. 4CIF.
Common Resolutions (PAL):
Limit of Analogue cameras
- 9CIF 1056X720
- 16CIF 1056X864
Most CCTV systems use a maximum of 4CIF True digital systems being able to go higher something that the majority of analogue systems can not do.
